Day 1: Hanoi – Cao Bang (N/A)
Distance: 280 km; 5.5 – 6 hours
Departing Hanoi at 8:00 AM, you’ll enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Thai Nguyen City. There, you’ll visit the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups, which is closed on Mondays from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, where you can explore fascinating exhibits on northern ethnic cultures. Afterward, savor a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your journey to Cao Bang, known for its diverse ethnic communities. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon and, if time permits, take a leisurely stroll around town.
Overnight in Cao Bang.
Day 2: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc – Cao Bang (B)
Distance 80 km; 2 hours
Start your day with a delightful breakfast at a local market, where you can savor delicious dishes like ‘Pho Bo’ or ‘Banh Cuon,’ immersing yourself in the vibrant flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. Afterward, visit a charming Nung ethnic hamlet, renowned for its handcrafted incense sticks, and then head to the blacksmith village of Phuc Sen, where skilled artisans create beautiful metalworks.
Next, arrive at the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall, a stunning natural border between Vietnam and China, where the cascading waters create a picturesque scene. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, soaking in the serene surroundings. In the afternoon, explore the impressive formations of Nguom Ngao Cave, a marvel of nature that will leave you in awe. Finally, return to Cao Bang for the night, reflecting on a day filled with memorable experiences and cultural discoveries.

Day 3: Cao Bang – Ba Be (B)
Distance: 135 km; 3.5 hours
We will depart at 08:00 for Ba Be National Park. Get ready for an exciting adventure! Once we arrive, we’ll take a boat ride on the beautiful Nang River, where you can enjoy stunning views of limestone cliffs and lush rainforests. Next, we’ll visit the enchanting Puong Grotto, known for its impressive rock formations. After that, you can relax and unwind at Vietnam’s largest natural lake, soaking in the peaceful surroundings and fresh air. It’s a perfect day to connect with nature!
Day 4: Ba Be – Hanoi (B)
Distance: 210 km; 4.5 hours
We will start our day by visiting Hua Ma Cave, famous for its stunning and unique stalactites that create a magical atmosphere. After exploring the cave, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a cozy homestay, where you can savor authentic Vietnamese cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients.
On our way back to Hanoi, we may stop at Cho Da Market, a vibrant place where you can experience the local culture and shop for unique items, depending on the lunar calendar.
Finally, we’ll arrive back in Hanoi in the afternoon, filled with wonderful memories from our adventure!
